Whether you’re playing for the first time or the bag is already your best friend, you must know Cornhole slang terms anyway.

So, for homework, learn them!

  • Cornhole/Cornholio: when the thrown bag that goes into the hole and is worth 3 points
  • Flop or floppy bag: when the thrown bag that goes in cornhole and there is no spin or rotation during its flight.
  • Slide, slider: when the thrown bag hits the cornhole board, then slides up into the hole to score 3 points.
  • Airmail: when the thrown bag goes in the hole, without touching the cornhole board.
  • Blocker: when a bag lands and stays in front of the hole, essentially preventing other bags from having a clear path to the hole.
  • Dirty bag: when the bag hits the ground, then rolls or bounds onto the board or when hits the board, then slides off touching the ground. It’s worth zero points.
  • Woody: when a bag lands on the board without going in the hole, scoring 1 point for the thrower.
  • Jumper, dirty rollup: when a cornhole bag hits another bag on the board and jumps over that bag, into the hole.
  • Short bag: when a bag falls in front of the cornhole board.
  • Hanger: when a bag lands on the board and and partially covers or dangles over the hole without going in.
  • Hammer: when one or more Hangers are around the hole, a so-called hammer can be used. A hammer is a bag thrown like an Airmail, with a high bow in an attempt to take the bag right up to the hole in it.
  • Wash: when both players/teams score exactly the same number of points in one round, resulting in all points in that round being voided.
  • Honors: when a team is the last to score in the previous inning or game, they get to throw first in the next inning.
  • Frame: one round during which the player and the opponent each throw 4 bags.
  • Backstop: when a bag lands on the board, behind the hole. This generally puts other bags thrown from sliding off the back of the board.
  • Pusher: when a bag pulls or pushes two or more bags on the board into the hole.
  • Busting: an unofficial rule that resets a player’s score to a predetermined number of points if their score exceeds 21 at the end of a round.
  • Cornfusion: this happens when teams or players disagree on the score on the end of the round.
  • Skunk, whitewash, shutout: a game that ends with a score of 21-0 or, according to some unofficial rules, ends with a score of 11-0.
  • Four bagger:  when a player puts all 4 cornhole bags in the hole, in a single round.
